Senegal’s forthcoming president is going to be Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the opposition leader. The country’s electoral commission has declared Faye as the winner of the presidential race, having secured 53.68% of the total votes.
Meanwhile, Amadou Ba, the candidate from the ruling coalition, has acknowledged his defeat with a vote share of merely 36.2%.
At 44 years old, Faye is the youngest elected president in Africa. He enjoys support from Senegal’s opposition figure, Ousmane Sonko, who, despite being disqualified from candidacy due to a defamation conviction, pledges to combat corruption and prioritize the nation’s economic welfare. Their agenda includes tackling unemployment and reevaluating mining and energy contracts with corporations.
