In Madrid, Novak Djokovic clinched the title of World Sportsman of the Year for the fifth time, matching a record, at the Laureus Awards on Monday. Additionally, Aitana Bonmati, the Spanish footballer, secured both individual and team accolades.
Djokovic, an eminent figure in tennis with a remarkable 24 Grand Slam titles, matched his former rival Roger Federer’s record at this esteemed event in Madrid. The 36-year-old Djokovic claimed three Grand Slam victories last year alongside triumph at the ATP Finals.
Expressing his gratitude, Djokovic remarked, “I am incredibly honored to have secured my fifth win.”
