Will Students owing register for 2023

South Africa – The Department of Higher Education reported that deliberations about whether students who owe university fees should be permitted to register were still ongoing.

Graduates who still owed payments, according to the agency, would be able to access their results but not their certificates.

Following a call from the Foundation for Education and Social Justice, universities now permit owe-paying students to sign up for the upcoming academic year.

Ishmael Mnisi, a representative for higher education, stated that it was still unclear whether rules applied to students registering with prior debt.

“We must await the minister’s decision regarding the actual process before moving further”
