Video of SANDF burning militants

An investigation has been launched in response to a 20-second video that is making the rounds online and shows soldiers in Mozambique dumping victims onto a flaming mound of trash. If confirmed, it might qualify as war crimes. The Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) was investigating the veracity of an online video purporting to show its forces destroying dead militants’ bodies on a pile of trash.

According to Brigadier General Andries Mokoena Mahapa, spokesman for the South African National Defense Force (SANDF), the “despicable incident” may have occurred in Mozambique in November of last year.

One of the troops in the video, at the very least, had a South African flag sewn onto his outfit. Where the others came from was not immediately apparent, though.
