The Paris organizers have introduced an unprecedented ceremony for the Olympics, departing from the traditional opening in the main stadium. French President Emmanuel Macron stated for the first time that the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics could relocate from the river Seine to the national stadium in the event of a security threat.
Macron proposed that instead of teams sailing down the Seine on barges, the ceremony could be confined to the Trocadero building across from the Eiffel Tower or even shifted to the Stade de France.
Originally, the ceremony was planned to include teams parading down the Seine on over 100 barges before assembling at the Trocadero for the event. However, amidst ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, concerns about security vulnerabilities, including the potential for drone attacks, have arisen.
Despite discussions about security risks, organizers have thus far maintained that the ceremony on July 26 will not be relocated unless there is credible evidence of a threat.
