Alaska – President Biden ordered a fighter jet to bring down a mysterious flying object off the coast of Alaska on Friday, according to the White House. The spokesman, John Kirby, indicated that the object was unmanned and was “the size of a small car”, posing a potential danger to civilian aviation. The object’s origin and purpose are still unknown.
Kirby also mentioned that the debris field produced by the object that was shot down was much smaller compared to the Chinese balloon that was destroyed by the American military a week prior in US territorial waters. The object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet over the northern coast of Alaska and was heading towards the North Pole over the sea when it was brought down. Commercial airlines can fly as high as 45,000 feet.
To collect the debris, helicopters and transport aircraft have been deployed to the frozen waters of the Beaufort Sea. Kirby mentioned that it is unclear who owns the object, whether it is owned by the state, a corporation, or a private individual. The object was first sighted on Thursday night, but officials did not specify the exact time.
