US First Lady Visit to Africa

Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, began her five-day visit to Africa by meeting with Namibian President Hage Geingob.

Biden expressed her desire to support democracies around the world and focused on the role of young people in shaping Namibia’s democracy and advancing health cooperation during her visit.

She also visited Heroes’ Acre, an official war memorial of the Republic of Namibia, where she laid a wreath to kick off her trip. Biden and Geingos, Namibia’s first lady, have developed a close relationship since meeting in December, according to Biden, and work together on similar issues.

This visit marks the first time a senior White House official has visited Namibia since former Vice President Al Gore’s trip in 1996.
