Tik Tok to be banned from Staff Phones in EU Parliament

Due to security concerns, the European Parliament has followed the European Commission and European Council in deciding to prohibit the use of the Chinese short video-sharing app, TikTok, on staff phones.

The ban will also extend to personal devices that have access to Parliament email and network. Similar measures have been taken by Denmark’s parliament, which has asked MPs and staff to remove the app from mobile devices, citing the risk of spying.

The US Office of Management and Budget has also instructed all federal agencies to delete TikTok from government devices within 30 days, describing the action as a “critical step forward” in protecting sensitive data. There have been ongoing concerns in the US about TikTok’s potential use for spying, and negotiations over its regulation for the American public are ongoing among politicians.
