Thousands buried under landslide

In the mountainous Enga region of northern Papua New Guinea, a devastating landslide has left as many as 2,000 people feared buried.

The tragedy unfolded last week, and the latest figures indicate a significant increase from earlier estimates. Locals in the affected area have been grappling with the aftermath, as tons of rock and mud crashed into their homes while they slept.

Rescue efforts have been hampered by the region’s remote location, compounded by the fact that Papua New Guinea is already one of Asia’s poorest nations. .
