In the aftermath of Monday’s earthquake, Syrian government forces reportedly launched an attack on areas that were severely impacted by the disaster.

This information was shared by Syrian sources and British politicians, including Alicia Kearns, who chairs the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Kearns referred to the attack as a “truly callous and heinous” action by President Bashar al-Assad on Marea, a town in northwestern Syria that was affected by the earthquake.

According to a military source close to the area, there were no casualties reported, as everyone was focused on the disaster. A civilian witness reported that the shelling occurred less than two hours after the earthquake, which has resulted in over 6,100 fatalities in Turkey and Syria.
