South Africans Evacuated From Sudan

South Africans who were stranded in Sudan due to the ongoing conflict are now relieved after being evacuated from the country without any casualties.

The government has confirmed that all South Africans have been removed from Khartoum, where more than 420 people have lost their lives and many others were wounded in the ongoing fighting between warring factions. The conflict started a week ago when the military clashed with a paramilitary group called the Rapid Support Forces, over the group’s integration into the military as part of Sudan’s move towards civilian rule.

One of the evacuees, who only wanted to be identified as Manda, expressed her relief at having escaped unharmed. The Department of International Relations spokesperson, Clayson Monyela, confirmed that the South Africans were being moved to an undisclosed safe location in a neighbouring country, adding that the operation was not an easy one.
