South African Deputy President Resigns

South Africa

David Mabuza, South African Deputy President , announced that President Cyril Ramaphosa has accepted his resignation. Mabuza informed his community in Mpumalanga that Ramaphosa would soon make a public announcement regarding his stepping down.

Mabuza stated that he had come to an agreement with Ramaphosa to resign to allow Paul Mashatile, the newly elected ANC Deputy President, to take his place. Mashatile will be sworn in as an MP on Monday prior to Ramaphosa’s anticipated cabinet reshuffle.

Mabuza stated that he wanted to inform his community first and said, “I have spoken to the president and told him I am stepping down. So I must also tell you, because this is my home, so that you are not surprised. You must hear it from me, not from anyone else.”

He added, “I think very soon the president will make that announcement that Mabuza has resigned. Its agreed.”
