South Africa’s President Reshuffles Cabinet

South Africa

President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has reshuffled his cabinet, following the resignation of former deputy president David Mabuza from the National Assembly. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa is now the minister in the presidency for electricity, while Paul Mashatile has been appointed as the new deputy president.

Other new appointments include Sihle Zikalala as minister of public works and infrastructure, Zizi Kodwa as minister of sports, arts, and culture, and Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as minister for women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Ramaphosa has also declared a state of disaster in response to the ongoing energy crisis in the country, and has appointed a new minister of electricity to focus solely on resolving the issue. South Africans have been facing rotational power cuts, known as “load shedding,” due to a shortage of electricity from power utility Eskom.
