South Africa Hosting China and Russia in Military Drills

South Africa – In light of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the United States has criticized South Africa’s decision to host military drills with Russia and China next month.

350 South African soldiers will train with their Russian and Chinese counterparts during the exercises, called Mosi, which means “Smoke” in Tswana, one of South Africa’s 11 official languages. During the first anniversary of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, the drills will take place off the coast of South Africa from February 17 to February 27.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, said on Monday that “the United States has concerns about any country… exercising with Russia as Russia pursues a terrible war against Ukraine.”
