South Africa Declares State of Disaster

South Africa – President Ramaphosa has declared the load shedding crisis a national state of disaster with immediate effect. The declaration was made official by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs on Thursday, February 9th.

During his State of the Nation Address, the president stated that the energy crisis in the country is causing significant harm and poses a serious threat to businesses and the economy.

By declaring a state of disaster, he aims to centralize efforts to address the crisis. The president emphasized that the declaration will allow for practical measures to be implemented, such as supporting businesses in the food industry, providing generators, solar panels, and uninterrupted power supply.
