Sheeran Denies Let’s Get it on plagiarism

As his copyright case began in New York City, Ed Sheeran refuted allegations that he copied Marvin Gaye’s Let’s Get It On for his track, Thinking Out Loud. The co-writer of Marvin Gaye’s song, Ed Townsend’s heirs, had accused the Brit Award-winner of stealing the song.

However, Ed’s lawyer argued that the two songs were distinct from each other, and that common musical chord progressions should not be monopolized by any artist.

During the trial, Ed also addressed claims that he had mixed Let’s Get It On with Thinking Out Loud in a previous live performance, stating that it was a common technique and that performing a stolen song in front of a large audience would be foolish. The trial is expected to last a week.
