School Textbooks With Errors

Despite recent promises from the education ministry, errors have once again been found in Mozambique’s textbooks, marking the second year in a row.

Last year, errors were detected in Grade Six books, and this year they have appeared in fifth and eighth grade textbooks. One of the books, published by Plura Editora for Portuguese in Grade Eight, starts on page 16 and features pages misplaced throughout the book, with some even printed upside down.

Social media has also revealed two different covers for the same Portuguese textbook for fifth grade. The education ministry’s spokesperson, Feliciano Mahalambe, had previously ensured that this year’s books had been thoroughly reviewed to avoid mistakes.

Last year, a Grade Six book was removed from schools due to errors, such as incorrect location of Mozambique in East Africa and the misrepresentation of Zimbabwe as having a coastline along the Red Sea.
