SA MP Passes Away During Training

South Africa – On Tuesday, Maurencia Gillion, an ANC MP in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), passed away during a training workshop for MPs organized by the NCOP in Cape Town. Gillion collapsed and lost consciousness during the afternoon session and was unable to be revived.

Gillion, who represented the Western Cape in the NCOP, served on the select committee on health and social services. She was also a well-known figure in the ANC Western Cape, having served as the party’s deputy provincial secretary from 2011 to 2015 and as the party’s provincial treasurer from 2015 to 2019.

Gillion was sworn in as a permanent delegate to the NCOP in May 2019, becoming one of six permanent delegates from the Western Cape. The National Assembly Speaker and NCOP chairperson expressed their condolences to Gillion’s family and the ANC caucus.outh Africa-
