Quad Meeting Cancelled

Australia has canceled the Quad leaders summit in Sydney after President Biden postponed his visit due to domestic debt negotiations in the US. The leaders of Australia, the US, India, and Japan will now meet at the G7 Summit in Japan instead.

Prime Minister Albanese stated that President Biden’s decision was necessary to address the potential consequences of a US debt default. While the Quad leaders will try to meet during the G7 Summit, the specific time is yet to be confirmed.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Australia may still occur despite the cancellation of the Quad meeting. The Quad, consisting of India, Japan, the US, and Australia, was formed to safeguard the Indo-Pacific sea routes and counter China’s assertive actions in the region.
