Proteas Women Reach ICC T20 Finals

The Proteas Women, South Africa’s national cricket team, have secured a place in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup after defeating England by six runs at Newlands Cricket Ground. This marks the first time a senior national cricket team from South Africa has advanced to an ICC World Cup final.

The team will face three-time winners and defending champions Australia in the final on Sunday. Ayabonga Khaka claimed 4/29 and Shabnim Ismail defended 13 runs in the final over to secure South Africa’s spot in the final, while Tazmin Britz scored 68 runs to help the team post a total of 164/4 in their 20 overs.

Coached by Hilton Moreeng, the Proteas Women have reached three major ICC tournament semi-finals in the past five years, including two in the 50-overs World Cup (in 2017 and 2022) and one in the T20 World Cup (in 2020).
