Plane makes an emergency landing

A Mozambique Airlines (LAM) plane carrying 120 passengers had a significant mechanical issue while in the air on Thursday morning, forcing it to return to Maputo International Airport and make an emergency landing.

The aircraft was traveling on a routine flight from Maputo to Lichinga in the north. It took off at 06:10, but when it was about 50 kilometers north of Maputo, above the Marracuene district, it abruptly lost both height and speed.

One of LAM’s most seasoned pilots, the captain, quickly returned the Boeing 737-700 to Maputo Airport. No one was hurt during the emergency landing.

According to Alfredo Cossa of the LAM Communications Department, the organization will give information on the issue’s root cause.
