South Africa – According to Dr. George Pasquin at the Kakamas Hospital, seven farmworkers have now passed away from heat stroke. There is a water deficit in the Kakamas region as well.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a warning on Wednesday stating that four provinces would experience a heatwave, with some areas experiencing temperatures above 40°C.
According to SAWS forecaster Jan Vermeulen, the Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Free State were all affected and will probably continue to record high temperatures into the weekend.
On Thursday, the highest recorded temperatures were in Augrabies (45°C), Upington (34°C), Laingsburg and Van Zylsrus (42°C), and Graaff-Reinet and Prieska (41°C). The high temperatures were brought on by a continuous upper-air high-pressure system, which allowed the temperature to progressively rise until it reached heatwave levels.
