Norway closing border to Russian Tourists

Norway has made the decision to close its border to Russian tourists, effectively severing their last direct access to Europe’s border-free Schengen area.

As of May 29, the majority of Russian tourists will no longer be permitted to enter Norway. This response is a direct reaction to Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.

Russian citizens traveling for tourism and other non-essential purposes will be denied entry across the external border. Norway, as a NATO member, shares a 198-kilometer border with Russia in the Arctic, and had already ceased issuing most tourist visas to Russians in the spring of 2022 following Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
