Nigerian Refugees

According to a report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the number of Nigerian refugees in Chad, Cameroon, and the Niger Republic has increased to 339,669 as a result of the unrest in various regions of the nation.

The amount represented an increase of around 17,000 over the 322,000 revealed by Sadiya Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, in September 2021.

In addition to the killings and kidnappings that occurred throughout the nation, the displaced people were victims of terrorism in the North-East and banditry-turned-terrorist in the North-West.

In 2021, the minister had stated that the breakdown was as follows: “16,634 are in Chad, 118,409 are in Cameroon, and 186,957 are in Niger Republic.”
