Nationwide Chaos

Peru – Police and demonstrators clashed in the increasingly widespread anti-government demonstrations on Friday night, leaving dozens of people hurt.

Local TV footage showed police in the country’s capital, Lima, using tear gas to fend off protesters who were hurling glass bottles and stones while fires blazed in the streets.

Interior Minister Vicente Romero claimed in a message to news media that approximately 1500 protestors attacked a police station in the town of Ilave in the country’s southern Puno area.

Romero reported that a police station in Zepita, Puno, was set on fire.

Victims were hospitalized with injuries, which included broken arms and legs, eye contusions, and punctured abdomens, according to Ilave’s health officials.
