Nadal is out

AUSTRALIA – Rafael Nadal, the defending Australian Open champion, suffered his poorest Grand Slam performance in seven years on Wednesday when he was defeated by American Mackenzie McDonald, who was ranked 65th.

The 36-year-old Spanish player at Rod Laver Arena failed 6-4, 6-4, 7-5 despite battling what appeared to be a hip injury.
