After being in the top 10 men’s tennis rankings since April 2005, Rafael Nadal has dropped out of the list for the first time in almost 18 years. This is due to an injury that caused him to miss Indian Wells and be unable to defend the 600 points, resulting in him falling to 13th place.
His record-breaking 912-week stay inside the top 10 ended on the same day that his teenage compatriot, Carlos Alcaraz, reclaimed the number one spot from Novak Djokovic after winning the Indian Wells final against Daniil Medvedev. Nadal’s absence from the Miami Masters means that he will not be able to return to the top 10 in the next month.
However, he could regain his position once he recovers from his hip injury. In the latest ATP rankings, Djokovic moved down to second place, Medvedev moved up to fifth, Auger-Aliassime rose to sixth, Hurkacz entered the top 10 in ninth place, and Taylor Fritz dropped to 10th.
