Mozambican Boat Disaster
Local authorities reported that over 90 individuals lost their lives in a tragic incident when a makeshift ferry, packed beyond capacity, sank off the northern coast of Mozambique.
According to officials, the vessel, originally a fishing boat, was carrying approximately 130 passengers and encountered difficulties while attempting to reach an island in Nampula province.
Jaime Neto, the secretary of state for Nampula, stated, “Due to the overcrowding and the vessel’s inadequacy for passenger transport, it tragically sank, resulting in the loss of 91 lives.” He further noted that many of the victims were children.
