Mayor Resigns After Few Hours of Appointment

South Africa- A few hours after being elected mayor of the North West local municipality of Ditsobotla, she announced her resignation.

During a contentious council meeting on Monday, Elizabeth Lethoko of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) was chosen to serve as mayor.

But after Fikile Jakeni, the newly elected African National Congress (ANC) speaker, put forth a motion for council to select an interim municipal manager, she ultimately tendered her resignation in protest.
