On April 15, armed conflict broke out in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, between the regular army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Since then, at least 97 civilians have been killed, and 942 people have been injured, including both civilians and military personnel.
The Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) have intensified their attacks on the RSF positions in the capital and different regions using airplanes and heavy weapons. The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) reported that 41 civilians were killed on Sunday, the second day of fighting, and 347 people were brought to hospitals with injuries.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that supplies distributed to health facilities prior to the conflict are now exhausted, and many of the nine hospitals in Khartoum receiving injured civilians are reporting shortages of blood, transfusion equipment, intravenous fluids, medical supplies, and specialized medical personnel, including anesthesiologists.
Additionally, water and power shortages, as well as fuel shortages impacting hospital generators, are affecting the functionality of health facilities. Some cell phone companies shut down for several hours on Sunday. The Sudanese army has retaken control of Merowe airport and seven RSF bases in Khartoum, Port Sudan, Kassala, Gedaref, Damazin, Kosti, and Kadugli.
