KLM Flight 588 Emergency Birth

A KLM flight destined for the Netherlands had to make an unscheduled landing in Spain after a woman unexpectedly went into labor, resulting in the birth of a baby on board.

According to Aviation24’s report on Tuesday, the incident occurred during the early hours of Monday on KLM Flight 588, a Boeing 777, while en route from Lagos, Nigeria, to Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, went into labor suddenly and was taken to the front galley of the aircraft, where she delivered a premature baby girl. Following the birth, the plane made an emergency landing in Barcelona, Spain, where medical personnel were ready to assist.

Both the mother and her daughter were reported to be in good health.

In response to the incident, KLM spokeswoman Marjan Rozemeijer stated on Tuesday, “I can confirm that a baby was born on KL 588 during its journey from Lagos to Amsterdam. Due to privacy concerns, I am unable to provide further details regarding the birth.”
