South Africa is currently facing a significant Internet outage that is impacting thousands of users nationwide, resulting in a lack of Internet access and disruptions to various online services.
According to reports from MyBroadband, the outage is attributed to multiple disruptions occurring on undersea cables near Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. These disruptions are affecting the West Africa Cable System (WACS), Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3 cables.
Darren Bedford, the head of business development at WIOCC group, has confirmed that several undersea cables along the West coast of Africa are experiencing outages. However, he mentioned that the Equiano cable, which WIOCC utilizes, remains unaffected, along with their capacity on the East coast EASSy cable. Bedford assured that their customers won’t be affected due to this redundant capacity.
Vodacom has also acknowledged the undersea cable outages, highlighting the impact on South Africa’s network providers, including themselves.
