Inquiry Into The Sale of South African Airways

South Africa

Opposition parties are urging for an investigation into the sale of South African Airways (SAA) following allegations of impropriety in the deal made by suspended director general of public enterprises, Kgathatso Tlhakudi. Tlhakudi made a protected disclosure to National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula accusing Minister Pravin Gordhan of impropriety.

The African National Congress (ANC) is hesitant to agree to an investigation, stating that they want to hear from Gordhan first. The Democratic Alliance and the Economic Freedom Fighters both believe that the allegations made by Tlhakudi warrant a thorough investigation.

The ANC’s Nkosinathi Dlamini believes that the committee should not be involved in a conflict between the minister and the director general and that the committee should focus on facts rather than rumors. In response to the committee, Gordhan stated that Tlhakudi’s claims were unfounded, and he never raised concerns while he was in charge of the restructuring process.
