Happy Freedom Day South Africa

On the 27th of April, South Africa observes Freedom Day as a public holiday, which marks the commemoration of the first post-apartheid elections held on that day in 1994 and celebrates the nation’s freedom.

On the inaugural celebration of this holiday, President Nelson Mandela delivered a speech to Parliament.

“The 27th of April 1994 marked the beginning of a new era, and for many of us, emotions were difficult to contain as we were reminded of our nation’s painful past, the immense opportunities we now possess, and the promising future ahead. We have come together today, in various locations across the country, to commemorate this historic day in our nation’s history. Whether we are in South Africa or abroad, our hearts beat as one, as we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and our dedication to its future”.
