Gunmen Attack School in Pakistan

Several teachers have been killed in a violent attack on a school in the volatile northwest region of Pakistan, where gunmen stormed a government school during student exams.

The incident took place in the Kurram district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan. The slain teachers were members of Pakistan’s Shia minority community, which has frequently been targeted by militants.

In a separate attack earlier that day, a Sunni Muslim teacher from the same school was shot and killed. The motive behind the attacks and the identity of the perpetrators remain unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the incidents.

The tribal district of Kurram has a majority Shia population and has experienced sectarian violence between Shia and Sunni tribes in the past. The prime minister of Pakistan has condemned the attacks and ordered an investigation.
