France’s Retirement Age to be Raised

France’s constitutional court has approved President Emmanuel Macron’s pension reform, which includes raising the retirement age from 62 to 64.

The ruling has been a major personal victory for Macron, despite sparking months of protests and strikes that have left hundreds injured. The president’s decision to push the pensions law through the lower house of parliament without a vote has outraged many voters and contributed to his low personal ratings.

The court’s decision will allow Macron to implement the unpopular changes, which have caused significant disruption in the country. Macron has indicated that he plans to stay the course despite the controversy surrounding the reform.
