Floods in China

Southern China (Guangdong Province): Tens of thousands of people were evacuated due to massive flooding caused by heavy rain in Guangdong province. Four people have died, and 10 are missing. Several major rivers burst their banks, affecting cities like Guangzhou, Shaoguan, and Heyuan. The delta region, home to around 127 million people, is prone to floods due to rising sea levels and storm surges Northern China (Shanxi Province): Over 1.76 million people were affected by severe flooding in Shanxi province. Torrential rain led to house collapses and landslides across more than 70 districts and cities. Rescue efforts are hampered by ongoing heavy rainfall Other Provinces: Hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated in southern and eastern provinces due to unrelenting rains causing floods and landslides. Two provinces upgraded flood warnings as rivers overflowed, with floodwater levels breaking a 50-year high3 China’s meteorological authorities continue to monitor the situation, and heavy rains are expected to persist in some areas.
