DR Congo Floods Kill Hundreds

The death toll from the floods in South Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo has exceeded 400, with 287 confirmed dead and 167 still missing due to heavy rainfall causing rivers to overflow.

The governor of South Kivu province, Theo Ngwabidje Kasi, provided this information. On Monday, President Felix Tshisekedi declared a day of national mourning, while a team of ministers will go to the region to coordinate humanitarian assistance and disaster management. Climate change has been blamed for more frequent and intense extreme weather events, according to experts.
