Donald Trump emerged victorious in the initial 11 primary elections, encompassing Texas, as the results trickled in from the 15 “Super Tuesday” states in the Republican presidential nomination race.
The former president, aiming for a remarkable return to the White House after his defeat by Democrat Joe Biden in 2020, appeared poised to secure a clean sweep of states on Tuesday on his path to clinching the Republican Party nomination.
States including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia were all declared in favor of Trump by US networks. Trump expressed gratitude on his Truth Social platform as the vote counts continued in the remaining Super Tuesday states nationwide.
Despite the odds, his underdog challenger, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, has not posed a significant hurdle in Trump’s pursuit of the nomination but has thus far opted to stay in the race.
In the Democratic nomination race, as anticipated, Biden secured victories in all 13 states called by US networks, with the exception of American Samoa, where he was projected to lose to lesser-known contender Jason Palmer.
Polling averages from RealClearPolitics indicate Trump holding a two-point lead over Biden in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup for the November election.
