Cats in Class

Katharine Birbalsingh, a teacher who has gained a reputation as the strictest headteacher in Britain, recently made a claim that children who identify as cats wear ‘ears’ and ‘tails’ in class. This statement was made during her speech at the NatCon conference, where she discussed the future of conservatism.

Birbalsingh highlighted the phenomenon of some children identifying as “furries” and emphasized the importance of recognizing the significant role schools play in shaping society’s culture. She pointed out that while students may not be allowed to wear trainers to school, they are permitted to wear ears and tails because it aligns with their chosen identity.

According to Birbalsingh, this illustrates a shift in the balance of authority between adults and children in educational settings. These comments follow a reported incident at Rye College in East Sussex, where a teacher allegedly criticized a student for rejecting a classmate’s claim of identifying as a cat.
