“Being homosexual isn’t a crime,” Pope Francis

Pope Francis said that anti-gay legislation be repealed and that churches welcome LGBTQ+ people. LGBTQ+ supporters laud the pope’s denial that sexual orientation is a crime and his exhortation to bishops to oppose anti-gay legislation as a “milestone.” His remarks were made prior to a trip to Africa, where homosexuality is illegal in some nations. By declaring that God loves all of his children just as they are and urging Catholic bishops to oppose laws that criminalize gay behavior, Pope Francis has called such laws “unjust.”
