Many Johannesburg residents have reported heightened ant activities, with some expressing how these pests have invaded their homes, occupying floor corners, furniture, and even electrical outlets.
Jason Stephens from Black Ant pest control noted a significant increase in calls for ant control since September last year, particularly in Johannesburg and Pretoria. He explained that higher temperatures accelerate the breeding cycle of ants, leading to intensified foraging activities, especially before the onset of winter.
Ant colonies, predominantly underground, surface to scavenge for food, contributing to increased household infestations. Additionally, the recent hot weather conditions have further fueled the proliferation of ant populations.
