“3 Body Problem” Billionaire did not live to see the its Premiere

Lin Qi, an avid fan of “The Three-Body Problem” and a billionaire, harbored ambitious intentions to bring his beloved Chinese sci-fi novel to a global audience through television, cinema, and video games.

Following the successful listing of his gaming company in 2014, Lin, fueled by his financial success, envisioned transforming China’s cherished sci-fi trilogy into a cultural phenomenon on par with “Star Wars.”

A decade later, Lin seemed poised to realize his vision as a Netflix adaptation of the Hugo Award-winning novel attracted millions of viewers worldwide. However, tragically, Lin did not live to witness the fruition of his efforts.

Named as an executive producer in the opening credits of “3 Body Problem,” Lin met a premature end at the age of 39, as confirmed by Chinese authorities, months subsequent to Netflix’s announcement of the series production in 2020.

The perpetrator of Lin’s demise turned out to be one of his own executives, a prominent lawyer who had aided Lin’s Yoozoo Games in securing the adaptation rights to the acclaimed trilogy.
